Why SOFAR Powerall

A major global manufacturer, not a label brand

SOFAR is a publicly listed global hybrid-inverter manufacturer with 37 GW+ shipped across 100+ countries. The Powerall runs CATL LiFePO4 cells — the same chemistry trusted by leading EV brands — and is on the CEC approved product list for Australia.

  1. CATL cells, world #1 LFP

The Powerall runs CATL LiFePO4 — the same cell chemistry trusted by leading EV brands. Thermally stable, long cycle life.

  2. 97.8% round-trip efficiency

Manufacturer-rated under test conditions — more of your stored solar comes back as usable power. Real-world efficiency varies with temperature, load and settings.

  3. Completely silent

Natural convection cooling. No fans, no hum in the garage wall, nothing to clog or fail.

  4. Expandable, no lock-in

Add 5 kWh modules anytime, mixing old and new freely. Some competitors require voltage-matched modules — the Powerall doesn’t care.

  5. AC-couple ready

If you've got a 6.6 kW PV system already, we add the Powerall as storage without ripping out your existing inverter.

  6. Stock on-shore

Two-week install only works when parts are in the warehouse. SOFAR-only focus means they always are.

We'll quote Fox ESS or VoltX if you specifically ask for them. We just don't recommend them — the comparison below shows why.

How we compare

SOFAR vs Fox ESS vs VoltX

Many battery quotes are for around 10 kWh. We install 20 kWh — double the storage — for a comparable or lower price. At ~$474/kWh installed, the Powerall works out well below the typical installed cost per kWh of comparable Fox ESS or VoltX systems.

Comparison based on publicly available product specifications and indicative market pricing checked in June 2026. Competitor products, pricing, warranties and support arrangements can change. Compare written quotes, datasheets, warranty documents and install scope before deciding.

Bottom line: the Powerall at $8,990 gives you 20 kWh — double the storage of a typical Fox ESS or VoltX quote at a similar or lower price. ~$474/kWh installed vs $850–$1,040/kWh for competitors. Plus inverter included, CATL cells, a 10-year equipment warranty and a 5-year Service Tech installation warranty, serviced locally.

Before you ask

Quick answers on the SOFAR Powerall

The most common questions we get on the quote call, answered here.

Is $8,990 really all-in?

Yes, for a standard residential install: SOFAR Powerall 20 kWh battery, 5 kW hybrid inverter, fitting and commissioning — with the federal battery rebate already applied at point of sale. The quote confirms the final figure before you commit. A switchboard upgrade or difficult access are the only things that change it.

How much of the 20 kWh can I actually use?

Around 18 to 19 kWh, at 90% depth of discharge. That compares well — most competitors quote nominal capacity and deliver a similar or lower usable share.

Can it AC-couple to my existing solar?

Most of the time, yes. The Powerall AC-couples to existing PV between 3 kW and 13 kW — that covers most residential systems installed since 2018. We confirm compatibility on the quote call.

Does it keep the lights on in a blackout?

It can, when backup is included in your quoted configuration. Switchover is under 10 ms (manufacturer-rated), but backup scope depends on the selected backup circuits, available battery charge, inverter output limit and network isolation requirements. A standard install may not provide whole-house backup — we confirm the backup scope in your written quote.

What's the warranty and who handles it?

10 years on the SOFAR equipment, plus a 5-year Service Tech warranty on the installation. Service Tech handles warranty claims and warranty-related fault diagnosis in-house for the life of the warranty. Non-warranty faults — third-party equipment, internet or app issues, network events, storm damage, misuse or customer-requested changes — may be chargeable. You call us, not an overseas call centre.

Can I add more storage later?

Yes. Add 5 kWh SOFAR modules anytime — old and new modules mix freely, no system replacement, no new inverter. And if you sign before 30 June 2026, the first extra module is free.

Modular

20 kWh now. 25 kWh free before 30 June.

The Powerall stacks in 5 kWh modules — and old and new modules mix freely. Sign before 30 June 2026 and we add a fifth module at install, about $3,000 of estimated extra-storage value, at no extra charge, subject to quote terms.

Want more later? Add modules anytime. No new inverter, no new cabling, no system replacement.
